Teaching in South Korea isn’t the Only Program with Epic Benefits

EPIK (English Program in Korea)  is one of the most well-known teach abroad programs out there. Part of the reason is because a lot of people know someone, directly or distantly, that has taught English in South Korea. The other reason is because the benefits are out of this world; it’s possible to save enough money to pay back student loans all the while making a difference, traveling around Asia and experiencing a new culture.

It’s also one of the most competitive programs in the teach abroad world making the decision to go forth with the application a little daunting. The payoff for the 6-month application process is worth it, but it’s definitely not guaranteed.

In the unfortunate event of a rejection letter to teach English in South Korea, or if you’re still deciding which teach abroad program is a good fit, teaching English in China is a program that deserves a second look.

Teaching in China is a program that offers similar benefits to EPIK but it is much less competitive, much more flexible, has start dates almost every month of the year and is still free to apply. Other benefits include 2 hours of in-person Chinese lessons every week, a Chinese co-teacher and a state-of-the-art classroom including smart boards, structured curriculum and continued job training. Although the monthly base salary is lower than in Korea, China also offers $400 a month housing stipend and $8 an hour every hour you are in the classroom (about 25 hours a week).

The application process is quick and easy, so whether you want to apply for it along side EPIK as plan B or you simply have the desire to discover the unique culture of China, this program is perfect!

Here’s how the South Korea and China teach programs benefits match up:
