Teach English in South Korea and gain international teaching experience while living in a country known for its dynamic cities, rich traditions, and strong demand for English teachers. This opportunity is a great fit for adaptable, motivated candidates who want to work with students, build international experience, and immerse themselves in daily life abroad. Positions may be available in public schools throughout the country, and private school opportunities may also be possible through a TESOL plus placement pathway.
The EPIK program, or English Program in Korea, is sponsored by the Korean Ministry of Education and places teachers in public schools throughout South Korea.
Most positions are one-year teaching roles, and start dates generally follow the main public school hiring seasons, with larger intakes in late February and late August and additional placements sometimes available in the following months. Candidates should generally be citizens of the U.S., Canada, the U.K., Ireland, Australia, or New Zealand, have a bachelor’s degree, meet English-language education requirements, and have either a qualifying TEFL/TESOL certification, a degree in Education, or a valid teaching license. Applicants must also meet background and health requirements.
Teachers in the public school pathway typically begin with an orientation upon arrival before moving into placement. For candidates interested in private school teaching, an in-person TESOL course in Incheon is also possible, followed by job placement assistance. That TESOL plus placement option includes a one-week cultural orientation, a three-week in-person TESOL/TEFL course, and assistance finding paid teaching work after successful completion.
