No, really…I’m FOR REAL in the future.

Ok, well kind of. Not only am I eleven hours ahead of my friends and family back home in Cleveland, Ohio, but according to the Thai Buddhist Era calendar, I’m 543 YEARS and 11 hours ahead! I briefly learned that it is the year 2558 a few weeks ago when we celebrated the Thai New Year, Songkran, up in Chiang Mai. I hadn’t given it any thought whatsoever until I signed the lease for my apartment, which was dated 25/April/58. I had no idea people still followed this ancient calendar, but come to find out, they absolutely do! Normally, the dates are used only to mark important Buddhist holidays, but I do not know all of the specifics. I know the full moon festivals here in Thailand correlate with this calendar, but I still need to do some research on the topic.
